Besides the top 3 (or 4) caribbean schools. what are other caribbean schools would u guys recommend? I am thinking about SMU. would anyone recommend anything other than that? ( i want a place that doesnt have harsh living conditions but also could get me a job in the US) I am applying to SMU but would like other options.
Thanks in advance!

MUA or SABA.

Check out licensing though if you are concerned about which state...

SGU ROSS and AUC are good for all 50 states.

CHECK OUT SMU,,GREAT SCHOOL AND LOCATION,,THE OTHER ISLANDS LOOK LIKE THE MOON,,AS A US CITIZEN ON THOSE ISLANDS YOU WILL HAVE NO RIGHTS OR SAY IF YOU RE A VICTIM OF A CRIME THE NATIVE ISLANDER WILL WIN IN MOST CASES,,DOMINICA, GRENADA AND SABA NEVIS LOOK LIKE THE MOON AFTER A NUCLEAR ACCIDENT,,,,BEEN TO CAYMANS AND IT IS VERY NICE SOME PEOPLE ACTUALLY RETIRE THERE FROM THE USA AND ENGLAND ETC,,GO VISIT AND SEE FOR YOURSELF

Hi. I just finished my 4th and final semester with SMU, and I absolutely hated it. I transferred to Sint Eustatius, and I am sooooo happy. SMU sucks in my opinion. I simply do not trust or like the owner, president or some of the folks running SMU, especially the dean in Maine. Do yourself a favor and look at Ross, AUC, Saba or SGU first. If not, think about MUA, AUA or Sint Eustatius. Otherwise, forget the carib route. Best wishes!🙂

Find the answers to some basic questions and that will guide yo uwhere top apply

1)How long have they been around?
2)What states are they approved in?
3)Number of clinical sites and locations?
4)Number of clincal that are ACGME?
5)Look at their residency match list?
6)Pass rates on Step 1.?...hard to find besides the big 4

If you look for these answers you will see the difference in the schools.

BIG 4:
SGU, Saba, Ross, AUC;

Next 3: In this order IMO
St. Matthew's-okay clinal sites; decent match list http://www.stmatthews.edu/residencyplace.html

MUA-okay clinical sites; small match list than St. Matthews http://www.mua.edu/alumn_matchresults.php

AUA-okay clinical sites; can't find match list posted, newer school(2001) but seems to be well organized, good # clinical sites, and making effort to be a quality school.

Most other schools you can't find answers to complete clincal sites list, match list isn't posted,etc....

what states approve of AUA?

what states approve of AUA?

It is the only school founded after 1998 that has NY approval. AUA was founded in 2001.

There are only 7 schools listed on NY state liscensure website that have approval....you can legally do more than 12 weeks of clinical in NY.

Only 7 schools have approval for NY state, meaning you can do more than 12 weeks of clinical in NY.......SGU, Ross, AUC, Saba, SMU, MUA, AUA

I believe that of those 7, only 4 have California approval being SGU, Ross, AUC, Saba. SMU(founded in 1997) applied in 2004 and was denied and is working towards another review. No school founded after 1993 has CA approval.

IMO:
Tier 1: California & NY approval
Tier 2: NY approval alone
Tier 3: Not approved in NY or CA
Tier 4: Not approved in NY or CA and limited or no proven residency placements

Founded date in ( )
Tier 1: SGU('77), Ross('78), AUC('78", Saba('93)
Tier 2: SMU('97), MUA('98), AUA('01)
Tier 3: St. Eustatius('99), St. James('01), St. Martinus('02)
Tier 4: All Saints('04), , IAU('04), IAUHS(?), Spartan('80), St. Theresa's('05), Xavier('03), Windsor(?)
