i know there are tons of threads about getting letters of rec, but i'm just looking for a straight answer on how many people i should ask. i've heard everything from 3 science professors and no one else to 2 science professors, two humanities professors, and a dentist! i'm a little confused...

thanks a bunch!

different schools have different requirements so that's why you hear different answers...I personally will have 2 science professors, 1 dentist and 1 character by the time I apply...might need a non-sci professor but that should be easy enough

for MOST schools, you need letters from at least 2 science (chem, bio, physics) professors. SOME schools require a third science letter, and SOME schools require a letter from a dentist, in addition to the 3 letters.

so, you should definitely ask 2 science professors, and a third professor (science or non-science). and it always help to get a letter from a dentist that you shadowed for...those 4 altogether will make a complete package of letters.

Check with the particular schools ! But again as every one else said, the general trend would be 2 science, 1 Dentist, 1 Employer or Research Professor!!

quick question....does anyone know if a Statistics professor would fulfill the science letter requirement? I've turned to going to my Stats professor office hours cause she holds them 3 times a week, whereas my current bio one only has it once and there is usually about 10 kids there (so getting recognition is difficult). oooooh the joys of being in a lecture with 400+ students 😳

I didn't use my stats teacher but used a similar instructor. It wasn't acceptable at some schools (UNLV, Pitt...) because they require Bio Chem or Physics. Unfortunately UNLV doesn't say this on their website, it just says science so you'll probably want to call to see from each school.
