Recommended Classes & Summer before Pharmacy School

Hello:

This is my final year before graduating and hopefully attending Pharmacy school in the Fall. I was wondering about courses you could recommend for preparing for pharmacy school. Would you say that as long as we have fulfilled the pharmacy school prerequisites, then we would be prepared enough? Pharm school curriculums cover advanced courses in Pharmacology, physical chemistry, etc. Would you recommend undergrads to take some of these courses so that in pharm school, we'd at least have a basic understanding and do better? Although I have or will have completed the courses required by USC (which, comparatively requires many courses), my conflict is that I would like to do well in pharmacy school, but worry that if I do take more of these challenging classes, I might not have time to complete my degree by June of this year.

On a similar note, I am contemplating on whether I should take additional courses of interest to me and hence prospond the completion of my degree until August instead of June of 2007. This means I will be taking more "non-required" courses (including Philosophy or other sciences), and perhaps this will leave me with one last course to take during the Summer before Pharmacy school (prospectively).

My final question is, is it a good/convenient/advisable idea to take summer school before starting pharm school- for those who are currently Pharmacy students or have experience, would you say it's better to complete our degree by June so that we can have the summer to "prep" - such as arrange housing, moving into our new place, applying for financial aid, orientation, or other arrangements (if you could also please elaborate) that need to be made before pharmacy school? What do you think is the best route? How much work is it once you've been admitted to your first quarter in pharmacy school? Thanks for any advice and help. 🙂

Bottom line, if you don't have any classes to take to meet the requirements for entrance into your program, DON'T take a single thing. Enjoy your time off. Trust me.

Don't a lot of schools require your pre-reqs to be complete before summer? I'm not sure if you're taking any of those, but just a heads up.

Also, I agree with the above poster - I would definitely avoid summer classes and enjoy the time off. Personally, I am only working up until the end of June and then I plan to take the rest of time before pharm school starts to move and settle into my new surroundings. I want to be completely fresh and ready for year 1 🙂
