Hey guys,
I'm finishing my last year at UC San Diego - we are on the quarter system - and I really need help deciphering what my pre-med committee has told me.
"One year of general biology course work and one quarter of lab are required by most medical schools."
" One year with one quarter of lab in both inorganic and organic chemistry is typically required. "
*I pulled those quotes from this page: http://career.ucsd.edu/_files/Medicine.pdf
Anyways, I've checked websites of multiple schools and even sent out a few emails. I'm not sure if I'm correctly understanding the responses that I've gotten back or if I even phrased my question correctly:
1st response) "for all of the prerequisite science courses, we only require 3 quarters of lecture and lab for a total of 12 credit hours per course."
2nd response) "Yes, three quarters of lab are required."
When I asked my pre-med committee & multiple friends, they've told me that our school is "different" and that we cram a year's worth of lab into a quarter. (eg. at my school, labs are taken separately and are not concurrent with any other class. For my Recombinant DNA lab we met for 3 hours of lecture per week and 8 hours of lab per week.)
1) Can any other UC (quarter-system) kids or anyone help me figure out if I am okay with just 1 quarter's worth of lab or if I need to finish up 3 quarter's worth of lab.
2) If you're from a quarter school and also applied with only 1 quarter's worth of lab, did you have to explain on your application that your lab was a condensed version?
Hope all this makes sense 0.o
thanks for the help 😀
