Does anyone have any suggestions in terms of good books/articles/etc to read that relate even loosely to veterinary medicine?

I'll try to add some more, but for now here's what I'm currently reading:

"Veterinary Ethics" by Jerrold Tannenbaum.
It is a bit dry, but I'm finding it helpful to flip through the book to get some ideas and approaches to ethical questions. Some of the information seems much more academic than anything.

has anyone else read this? does anyone know what most school make vet students read in terms of ethics?

This is what first-years at Davis read; Dr. Tannenbaum teaches the course.

Do you know if the class is any good?

My impression is that most people don't like the class. From what my boyfriend was telling me, it sounds like a lot of people just don't really like Dr. Tannenbaum that much. My bf likes him a lot (it doesn't hurt that Dr. Tannenbaum wrote a letter of rec for him ;-), but did say that the class is pretty boring. Dr. Tannenbaum teaches an undergrad course in animal-use ethics which is a supposedly a lot better (unfortunately). They have a lot of guest speakers in that class, and my bf said that the veterinary one could benefit from the same thing. If you want to know anything more specific, I could ask him when I get home later.

Oh, and speaking of book recommendations, I loved "Appointment at the Ends of the World: Memoirs of a Wildlife Veterinarian" by William Karesh.

Don't forget the James Herriot books (aka Alf Wight, a famous Glasgow grad).
- I particularly like "All Creatures Great and Small" and "James Herriot's Dog Stories".

Another good read is "If Wishes Were Horses" by Loretta Gage. It's about a thirty-something year old's journey through vet school. It's not all positive, but I thought it was really well-written!
