Hi. I have been using a pda provided by my school for MS-3 and MS-4. As I begin internship I will be needing to buy my own pda and I was thinking of having a smartphone pda. I see countless residents and doctors with their iphone's and i phone apps. I don't think I have ever seen any residents using Androids...

Problem is I love my Verizon plan, and who knows REALLY when the iphone will pick up Verizon (likely not before I start in July)

Just wondering if anyone else has any experience with Androids? Are most med apps available for iphones also available for Androids.

Are there any other smartphone/ pda recommendations that anyone else has? (Blackberries, other brands, etc....). My last pda used a windows format which I liked. I'm so clueless when it comes to tech stuff....

THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!

Since Androids are relatively new compared to the others, they aren't as highly supported by medical apps as the other types of PDAs. However, this is changing as more and more apps become available for Androids. The most flexible are windows mobile pocket PCs. There are thousands of applications available for windows mobile. If you're on Verizon, have a look at the impressive Samsung Omnia II. There is some debate about whether or not you should buy a windows mobile device now because Microsoft is releasing a new version of windows mobile some time this year I think. Apparently they wanted to completely reconstruct the operating system, so unfortunately that means any apps that work on Windows mobile 6 (or older versions) will not work on the new windows mobile (I think it's called windows mobile 7, but not sure about that one).

I have an Omnia, and it's the last thing I would ever recommend. It's terribly slow, often freezes/crashes, and needs to be restarted as is typical for windows. I like the droid, it has epocrates, diagnosaurus, Mobile DDx, Archimedes, and Facebook, those are the only apps I really need!

Do you have the Omnia I? Because yea, it's really slow. What I was refering to is the Omnia II (i8000). It's incredibly fast (800 mHz I think).

I have a Blackberry Bold with SkyScape apps and it works really well 👍
