I am currently a Junior pre-PT student and am having some what of a dilemma. For the last two semesters all I have heard is horror stories of PT school admissions. I know students with 4.0 GPAs and great GREs not getting accepted or just barely making a program.

I have currently have a 3.38 GPA and I am sure it'll be around a 3.25 around the time I'm done with some of my senior level classes.

I feel as though I have a 0% chance getting into any programs at this point and it is kind of a bummer.

I love PT and want to do it for my career for sure. Recently I have been debating transferring to a PTA program instead and just going from there.

Is anyone else in the same boat as me? Any Advice?

My GPA was similar to yours and I was accepted when applying in 2012. Schools look at more than just GPA. In my case I had a pretty good GRE and maybe a little more experience than other people. So dont let a lower GPA get you down. Also you still have the Spring semester and your Senior year to improve your grades.

Also, no such thing as "barely making a program" you either get in or you dont. I wouldnt put much stock into people with 4.0 GPA not getting in....there most likely is some outlying circumstance such as totally bombing the interview or application essays.

Honestly those are fine stats. Schools look at a lot more then GPA and GRE. I like to think PT programs are a lot more holistic then medical school programs. I currently have lower stats then that but have already received two interviews from my top two programs. Also you should realize that although student doctor forums are great you should take this website in stride. Only people that a driven and do well share their GPAs here or are more likely to. I would say you have a decent shot. Just be realistic and be a person that has a application that is more than number based. Go out and try to make a difference, gain experience, and show why you belong in this field.

If PT is really what you want to do, do it. I have lower stats than you and have been just fine getting into schools. You just need to strengthen other parts of you app. Your GPA really isn't bad and there could be a number of reasons why your friends with 4.0 aren't getting accepted.

Those 4.0's most likely lacked in other areas.

The numbers and statistics can deter applicants away, but please do not let your grades be the sole determinant in your to stop pursuing your goals.

We hear stories from acceptances and denials from across the spectrum or grades, degrees, and experiences This website alone is testament to that. Remember, each school has (for the most part) takes a holistic approach to the application. If you have a passion for the field, schools will be able to identify that and sense that in your application. Look at your strengths, how can you accentuate that? You can look into schools into which focus on those strengths and can help you stand out as a candidate Remember, there are multiple factors to an application and make sure you do not neglect those (i.e GRE, activities, personal statement, interviewing skills, etc)

I can relate to your stats. I entered my application with a 3.3 across the board and a 300 on the GRE (151 Q, 149 V, 4.0 AW). Anything can happen. Continue to stay focused and don't be discouraged! you got this.

My stats are really similar and I've been accepted at 2 schools and had interview offers at 2 more. Hopefully a couple more options will surface. Many schools do rolling admissions so just apply early as possible after the July opening date and you should get a look. I always felt if I got an interview I would get accepted once they met me and so far I'm 100% on interview to acceptance ratio. Don't get discouraged. Just be smart about which programs you apply to. Most look at more than the numbers. In my experience private schools (generally) look more at the person. If you don't get in first try, try again. It's fairly normal to take a couple cycles to get in. Good luck!

I would still give it a shot. I've seen people with a much lower GPA than mine get into multiple schools, meanwhile I have 3.8 GPA and applied to 6 schools and have been put on the waitlist by two of them and haven't heard back from the rest. But two of the schools I heard that others have heard back so I'm assuming that's a rejection. You never know unless you try.
