Recording lectures

Hi, I'm beginning dental school this year. I was wondering if it is practical to record lectures for the big classes and if you have the time to listen to them again. Does anybody do it?

It depends.

Some instructors give you really good notes on handouts and all you have to do is pay attention and anotate on the margins. Others are so disorganized that you do need a tape recorder. It is also customary at some schools to have the class pay for the notes to be transcribed and distributed.

In a nutshell, after the first week of class at your school you will know for sure if it is necessary.

tape recording is a waste of time unless you have a lot of time and no life. I suggest taping a class only if there is a review and listen to it while you are driving or working out. People stress out about not getting every piece of info. If you pay attention and take some solid notes you will be fine. I would suggest taping if you tend to doze off, in any case you can copy the notes from a friend. Like anything else it is up to you.

I agree....Taping classes is a waste of time. Learn to take good notes, and makes some friends who also know how to take good notes. The key is to get the highlights from every lecture, not bog through the entire lecture a second time. Don't let your classmates transcibe word for word. Have them highlight the important parts of each lecture. You have no time to read through 6 pages of profs jumbled lectures.
