Black Clinical and Counseling Psychology Students:
Navigating an Interpersonal Matrix
Are you interested in being a participant?
Participants are being recruited for a qualitative research study that seeks to explore the experiences of Black clinical and counseling psychology doctoral students. In particular, this study will examine how Black doctoral students navigate personal and professional relationships developed within their academic programs. There is a dearth of research in this area and I am conducting this study in order to fulfill my degree requirement as a doctoral student.
If you choose to participate in this study, you will be asked to discuss your experience in a group format with three to five fellow doctoral students/graduates. This group will meet once for about one to two hours depending upon the depth of the discussion. The interview will take place either online, at Long Island University, Post campus, or another location that will ensure your confidentiality. The scheduling of the meeting will take into account your availability and convenience.
In order to participate in this research study, you must identify as either Black, African-American, or as a member of the African Diaspora. You must either be currently pursuing a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology or have graduated within the past two years. In addition, you should have completed at least one year in your academic program and are currently receiving or have received supervision as a part of a practicum, externship, or internship.
There are several benefits to participating in this study. As a form of compensation, you will receive a $5 gift card to amazon.com. Your experience will be valuable in understanding the experiences of Black doctoral students, will promote diversity within the field and literature of clinical and counseling psychology, and will generate recommendations for recruitment and retention.
If you are interested in participating and/or obtaining additional information, please feel free to contact me via email at [email protected]. I hope to hear from you.
