You need to retake preferably at a comparable school to where you took it originally

Even for a lower level science class like general chemistry? (this is a 100 level course at every public university around me)
Yes as this is a requirement for Med school and you don’t want a C- in a required course.

Sorry I meant in terms of where I took it. All of the upper division bio classes I've taken (300-400 level) and the retakes (Organic I/II) I've taken have been at a public university. I don't really understand why retaking a lower level science class at a CC would raise eyebrows.

where are you taking your DIY post-bac classes at? just do your gem chem class there

I am trying to reinvent myself using the advice of @Goro and others. My hope is in a year or two to start broadly applying to med schools or SMPs. I have already taken ~24 credits as part of my post-bacc. I could be wrong but from what I read adcoms mostly want to see you take and do well in upper division bio classes (Microbiology, Bacteriology, Anatomy/Physiology, Immunology, etc.) in a DIY postbacc.
You're right, but your upper-division bio classes needs to also come with passing grades for the prereqs. However, since you're already doing a DIY postbacc at uni then it is reasonable to retake at CC - if questioned, just tell them what you told us and that it was due to financial reasons after having realized a bit late that you needed to retake a C-.

Should be fine.

Op all the premeds on this thread have no idea what they are talking about. Take the chem courses at CC if you need to. adcoms dont care whether its a CC or not they realize financial situations arise, whether you have one or not, and can be a real barrier. If you can take it at a public uni thats obviously preferable however if you must go CC it really doesnt matter just do well in the course. Adcoms arent going to discriminate against CC
