Hello sdn'ers! Although I have been a member for a while I am normally the observer. Now everything is coming to a wrapping and I have a couple questions that I am sure you have all heard before...sorry. I was curious if somebody could give me some feedback on my stats and chances of applying this coming summer.

Undergraduate school: University at Buffalo
Overall GPA: ~3.94
Science GPA: ~3.9

I have received A's in every class except Organic Chem part one, which I got an A- and US History....B+ (I know....who can mess up a History class)

Obviously on the Dean's List and all of that.

I am a teacher assistant in Cell Biology. I have just started to teach review lectures and have run labs in the past.

I will begin shadowing about five hours a week this upcoming week...for a total of about 200 hours by this coming August.

I was involved in a very competitive program as a Senior in High School...went to school at a Hospital and rotated through every part of the Hospital three times a week, four hours at a time, for a year...as well as classes at the hospital. I know H.S. work in your Senior year is usually meaningless....but I figure this was beyond the normal.

My extracurricular activities are lacking beyond being a TA and tutoring. I work normally at least twenty hours a week and beyond forty during the summer months.

So giving this info....I know the DAT is a big part....what does anybody have to say? Competitive? Average? Below par? Thanks for the help.

Are you trying to have us rub your ego?

Your average...I would consider something besides dentistry..it's way too competitive, and with your stats you won't have a chance.

Honestly....very honestly, no. For a while I was considering becoming a physician but was always twisted with differrent thoughts. Dentistry was always in my mind. I have never had feedback from pre-dents or dental students...only med student. I am curious what you all think. I am sorry if it appears that I am looking for some sort of self-boosting post.

Thanks for any insightful feedback.

you will get 23s to 25s on your dats i bet and then get interviews at everywhere you apply to then as long as you arent completely ******ed and can actually hold a conversation you will get into every school you apply to probably. im not joking. 👍

If you get anything above a 16 on your DAT, you'll get in somewhere due to your gpa. Chances are, you'll get above 21 on the DAT, and you'll get into at least a couple of your top choices--provided you submit your application sometime in the summer.

Good luck (not that you need it)

I'm sorry but I just have to say this since I'm freaking out about my apps.....why do people post threads asking what their chances are when their GPAs are are like 3.8-3.9!!?!?^%^&^*&???
I just don't get it??Isn't it OBVIOUS that you are competitive? you probably have a pre-dent or pre-med advisor you already talked to or you MUST have gone to dental school websites already to check their average GPAs???
Why ask what we think when you know you have a great GPA from a decent undergrad and you'll probably do great on your DAT????
so....it really does sound like you want us to stroke your ego....dang!

Good stats if that's what you wanna hear, but if you don't have a good personality, you still can't get into schools like Harvard.

ok....listen, no matter how hard you try to convince us that you're not here to have us "rub your ego" as one poster stated, we should not beleive you: YOU SAID THAT YOU'VE BEEN OBSERVING, WHICH MEANS THAT YOU KNOW SO VERY DARN WELL THAT YOU ARE SUPERCOMPETITIVE.....YOU ARE INDEED FISHING COMPLEMENTS...YOU ARE ALSO BRAGING IN A SMART SUBTLE WAY. FRANKLY, I THINK YOU'D FIND MORE OF YOUR KIND IN MED-SCHOOL SO YOU SHOULD FORGET ABOUT D-SCHOOL AND STICK TO MED-SCHOOL......kudos to the SDNer who said that you're "average"....he/she knew what you want to hear and told you the opposite....

guess what? people like you usually (not always) make awesome test-takers and thus can excell at all entrance exams (MCAT, DAT, GMAT, GRE, LSAT..etc)...however, people like you usually (not always) make terrible communicators......stick to the type A character and go to med-school. 90% of meds are like you. .....

Mmmmm....well I was actually being honest this entire time. When I mentioned that I observed....it was not the statistics of others (why whould I .... what sort of feedback could I offer without going through the total experience?). I normally "observed" a variety of the other discussions...from what people say about certain schools to financing edu.

Also I would like to mention that I have exceptional communication skills. I work currently in an industry with people the entire day....and get many props for the manner in which I handle myself. I have done rotations with dentist and physicians alike in which I examined patients and spoke with them....I have good "bedside" manner.

So my point is that I wanted feedback. I lack certain extra activities because of working a lot. Thank you for not answering my question and trying to make an argument.

i have almost no extracurricular activities because i worked (~15 hrs/week). working seems to make up for no extracur. act. and might even make a better impression because it is a constant commitment and shows responsibility. plus, your extracur. activities are really strong. tutoring and being a TA go way beyond monthly meetings for a club. your stats are amazing, dont worry about getting in.

First of all, I don't get why you have 2 accounts. You're a TROLL.

Secondly, you'd have to be a friggen ****** to post this seriously.

HI...i got all As except for an A- and a B+???? hahahhaha, what a loser.

Great scores, great book smarts, just an idiot under it all 😀

yeah yeah yeah yeah......you have exceptional everything...you're holy...you're already examining patients...wow..so you're already a doc!!!...what else? ...you have exceptional looks too....if you have it all then why are you on SDN? SDN is for humans not gods... BESIDES, YOU ARE LYING IN TERMS OF "NOT OBSERVING STATS"....YOU HAVE SEEN STATS LEFT AND RIGHT BECAUSE MANY SDNers POST THEIR STATS AS PART OF THEIR POST SIGNATURE!!!

And what you call “communication skills” are “acting skills”….that people like you use to get ahead…once you’re in a real position of authority, the real you will come out. Also, by telling us the hours you work, you are also subtly bragging: in effect, you’re telling us that you don’t have time for extracurricular because you work a lot but in intent, you are trying to let us know that you are super-disciplined, have the ability to work a lot while at school, and immune to distraction and all….

Most of us are struggling to get one acceptance letter and you come here and ask whether or not a 3.9 sc. GPA is competitive……

The fact that you question the competitiveness of your stats means that according to YOUR standards, we are all unqualified to get into D-school. According to you we should all go to culinary school.

You are so pompous that I can smell the stench of your ego all the way from buffalo!!

As far as thanking me, well, you're more than welcome stinky...

I'm considering culinary school.🙁

If you cannot evaluate your "competitiveness" based on those grades and what you've "observed" on this website then I must tell you, there's no hope for your pathetic self. I am not usually like this and I believe you're a troll but what the heck? "...what does anybody have to say? Competitive? Average? Below par?" How about STUPID! (Now I'm going to be banned for being a bad girl, waaaaaaah!)

oh no, B+ oh my god, you messed up your history class.

"Obviously on the Dean's List and all of that" 🙄 :barf:

"My extracurricular activities are lacking beyond being a TA and tutoring. I work normally at least twenty hours a week and beyond forty during the summer months."

yeah....that's lacking...uh huh
