I am trying to decide how many people to request references from this cycle. Last year was my first application and I went all out and filled up all 6.

I am only applying to Purdue this time and I am wondering if it necessary to get that many, do they look at anything beyond the 3 that they require? Is it a waste of effort to get the additional?

Any thoughts?

I think it isn't necessary to go beyond three. I know some schools only accept 3 letters while others will look as many as you send them.
I think it's the best to have letters to cover each area of you.....like academic + vet + maybe employment or other volunteer work.
So if your eLORS can comment on different aspects of you, then I think it'll be enough. It's best to have diverse eLORS.....That's my take.

Hey Cypress!!!

I'm applying to only Purdue also this cycle!

I asked a 2010 DVM from Purdue the same question, and she said that PU only looks at 3. So I just got my three and left it at that.

Hope this helps, and good luck!!

Thanks so much EnvyPointers - I was figuring just 3 was the way to go - keep it simple

Good luck to you as well!!

Is this your first go around?

You think September is no fun - just wait until letters start going out and your life is ruled by the mail box. This is my second time around...

So I went ahead and emailed Purdue about eLOR question...

"Our rule of thumb has been that we only accept three eLOR in order to help our admissions committee with the huge load of applications that they evaluate. However, since everything is being done electronically now it is possible for the committee to read whatever eLORs are in the application if they choose to do so.

I hope this is helpful."

This is the response I recieved...so I guess I'll be begging last minute recommendations from people

Are you applying anywhere else?

Hrm... maybe I'll be doing last minute ones also. This should be entertaining...

Nope, I'm only applying to Purdue. I grew up in Lafayette... got an A.A.S in Surgical Technology from Ivy Tech and got a fabulous offer in Austin, TX. so my husband and I went there for nearly 2 years... then moved to Virginia for about 9 months for family health issues... Now I'm back home. Well... I'm in Indianapolis now, but close enough.

Since practically my entire family went to Purdue, I can't even see myself going anywhere else. But who knows. I might change my tune after this cycle. 🙄

Thanks for the info about the eLORs!!
