In my personal statement for a university I am stating why I believe my research interests are congruent with a specific professor. I didn't want to write out the entire title of the publication because I believe it will look like filler. So I reference part of the title of the publication. Should I still put it in quotations even though it isn't the entire title? Also what method should I use for capitalization. Should I only capitalize the first word of the partial title of the publication, or should I capitalize each word? Your responses are greatly appreciated.

Is this a publication that shows up on your CV? You could always say, "As you can see from my CV..." or "please refer to my CV." I know this doesn't really answer your question, but its another option. As my mentor edited my personal statement she thought that method was a good idea.

I'm sorry I should have written it out more clear in the post but I am referencing a publication that my prospective mentor has completed. Not a publication that I am involved in.

Ah, that's different. I would refer to her/his paper as something like "Dr. Q's 2012 Journal of Abnormal paper on topic x". The POI obviously knows to what paper you refer, and you have more space to write about your fit.

I was wondering the same thing. And when you do that, you should include apa references at the bottom? I know it sounds a little ridiculous but I also dont want them to think that I don't know to include a proper reference when using in text citations
