Resolved.... New question Post #5

Thanks!

Hey Guys,
I am thinking about applying to a few American schools nextsoon but I have a few questions regarding applications.

I was born in the States therefore I cFoan obtain my American citizenship if need be, but my only concern is I wouldnt be considered In-State would I?? So my US citizenship doesn't play much of a role since priveledges to Americans aren't given out unless In-State status applies?

And regarding GPA (2nd year student)

If I failed second half credit of calculus (1st year) and took statistics to cover it how will this affect my GPA? How does one calculate a GPA from percentages? My marks this year (all half year courses) 80 83 87 88 83 and my marks last year were a lot lower. Do most schools take all 4 years or best 3 etc? If by chance my marks posted earlier were full year courses how would I calculate my appropriate GPA considering all of the grades are Science.

Can't answer all of them but I'll try with the ones I know.

1. US citizenship will still help because some schools don't accept international students, period. Getting it would definitely give you more options.

2. Schools look at all 4 years, unlike Canada.

Unless you have residency in a state, then you won't be eligible for in-state tuition/status.

Calculus, I believe, is a pre-req for dschool so you need a full credit's worth. Every school should have a converter from percentage to GPA. I think in general, 80+ is an A and a full credit is 3 credits in the states (check this with your school's policy).

Depends on the Canadian school. Some have 80-84 as A- and 85+ as A. 75-79 is B+, etc. down to C.

Hey guys thanks for the help!
I have a question left tho. If my GPA is around 3.7 for three years straight but 2.4 for my first year what should I do?
Do the applications show a cGPA of all years or seperate gpas for each year? I really am kind of stuck since my cGPA isnt as high as i would like. First year wasn't really a good year for me considering I didn't know what I wanted to do and wasn't motivated at all. Any suggestions?

Thanks again!
