regarding DAT retakes....

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
there is absolutely no advantage to taking a test just to "see how hard it is".... every test version is different and will have different questions. If you want to REALLY see how the test is, go download the free DAT test ADA has on their website.

Theoretically speaking, a person is at most allowed to take this test 3 times without any hassles, yousure you wanna waste one of those valuable opportunities just to see how the test is?

And to answer your original question, no there is no disadvantage to taking the test more than 1 time. As matter of fact, if you show good improvement on the retake, it makes you look pretty impressive. And dental schools will receive a list of the last 3 DAT attempts, most of them consider only the latest DAT take.

What do you mean by petition though????
Does it mean that DAT authorities might now allow me to write DAT if I wrote it over 3 times ?
If I write 4 or 5 times, is there any disadvantages in applying to dental schools in US?

THX

In my opinion, if you can't cut it in 3 attempts, chances are you ain't gonna cut it ever and I think thats the approach they use in their thinking process. I am sure there have been a few cases (even few around SDN) where folks did TERRIBLE in the first 3 attempts and just murdered the DAT on the 4th, but these occurrences are too few and far apart.

IMO your chances become extremely hindered once you take it 4/5 times and your not really improving from your previous first 3 attempts....

treat this test with respect, it can open all different doors for your future
