Regional Bias

Current/Recent applicants, how bad is the regional bias in ophtho? What % of your interviews are in the same part of the country as your med school? My advisor said to do aways on different coasts to show I'd go anywhere, does this help in your experience? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I would say that it's a little regionally biased.
Most of my interviews are either in:
- my home school region
- my away rotation region
- a couple that are completely out of place I have no connections at

Yes away can help, especially if you get a letter from that place, but as with anything it's not a guarantee.
