hey everyone,
i was curious how everyone who took the august mcat feel about the whole app process. a little lost? maybe even behind...i guess i wish i did better on april. but post your regrets here. anyways i want to know if everyone is getting interviews yet? especially the CA schools! 😉

Dont' feel too bad Genome... lost is not the word...

Not only did I take the August MCAT... but I was just recently verified about 2 weeks ago (meaning all of the schools don't have the hard copy of my AMCAS) after turning the darned thing in at the end of September... oye...

I've filled out 9 secondaries and I've not heard from a school yet..
so I too will play the waiting game.

It would be totally wonderful to know where I'd be going a year from now. But I realize that you've got to pay your dues (literally! this is expensive), and this is just an experience that we would hope to not have to go through again!

Best of luck in your process! 🙂

thanks!
good luck to you too! i applied to 25 schools so hopefully i will hear fr at least one of them!! heehee😀

I feel the pain, too. AMCAS verified 10 days ago. Just finished 2 more secondary, no interview. Now, I am wondering if I just waste $115 from my already bottom out account.

hi everyone, i took my first mcat in august 2003 and have 8 interviews so far, just give it another month I really don't think taking the august mcat hurt us at all just made us go a little slower in the process (my amcas was verified in august) you have to realize that most interview invites take place in early january and acceptances in march.

as far as cali schools i've gotten one interview so far and one rejection 🙁

also think of the costs as more of an investment than anything else. goodluck to you all, and someday your all gonna be doctors

was the CA rejection after the interview or 2ndary?
congrats and good luck on you interviews.

unfortunately it was after the long secondary

md_hopeful21,
How have you already had 8 interviews when August scores only came out about a month ago? I took the April MCAT, was verified in September, and have been complete at some schools for a month with no interviews. I thought schools don't review applications until MCAT scores come out, so I'm wondering what your secret is.

maybe he means that he has 8 interviews that he has either completed or waiting for.

maybe finished some and waiting for others.

but if you had completed 8 interviews....now thats a secret i would like to know as well.

md hopeful--which schools, if you don;t mind me asking.
Also, in general, does it matter when you were complete at schools as long is it was before the scores came out, or do they review them in order of completion, regardless?

I also took 'em in August and haven't heard a peep about interviews. I've only gotten complete notices from about half the schools I applied to too. From reading some recent posts, it seems that SDN isn't quite representative - there are alot of people who apply/interview/get accepted quite early compared to the general population.

I think things will heat up for us in January...

I think it is imperative to try to establish some sort of relationship with the admissions office at the school where you'd like to end up.

In my case, I took the August MCAT (I got a 30, but my WS was really, REALLY bad. Fortunately my April was decent) and I submitted fees and 2ndaries for about half the schools I am submitting 2ndaries. NJMS has asked me for an interview because my boss and former classmate is already matriculated there and they asked her about me.

If you know anyone inside already, it's another opportunity to get some inside help for this process. Networking works!

I still couldn't believe how poorly I did in writing after improving my BS score from an 8 to a 12. for shame...

😕

I do not regret taking the August MCAT. I submitted AMCAS in late June, verified by early July, and had 6/10 secondaries even before the MCAT score came out (even from some very good schools). I have 3 interviews scheduled or complete so far.

I actually took the April MCAT, but voided because I was not certain that I would get the kind of score I wanted (had not had enough time to prepare). I regretted this decision during the summer, while I was studying for the August MCAT and my friends were out having fun. However, once I got my score, I was very glad I had delayed.

I waited for August because I wanted to be sure I could get a high score even on a bad day (e.g. PS full of optics, nuclear physics, electricity and magnetism). The high MCAT score has opened all kinds of doors that I believe would have been closed otherwise.

However, it is very difficult to get motivated to complete secondaries and send in another few hundred dollars in fees, when you are waiting and have no idea whether your MCAT score is going to be competitive or not.

I know that April would have made life a little easier and more pleasant. However, a higher score in August is better than a lower score in April.

None but an interview in december would be nice. This makes for an overblown amount of optimism during the upcoming holidays!Cheers Everyone and have a safe/good Thanksgiving!🙂

Personally, I think it all depends on the order the ADCOMS review your application. I took the August exam and have been invited for 7 interviews thus far with 2 already completed. I received these invites within about 2 weeks time after the scores were released. Since then, I haven't heard anything. I guessmy point is that some schools are slower than others at reviewing applications, so be patient. Interviews will come. Good luck to you all.

Oh, and if you're interested my invites came from Upstate, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, St. Louis, Stony Brook, and Boston.

i retook it in Aug, and I've 1 invite for my state schl Mich State, my stats were sooo far below average too 😀

Retook in August, 4 interview invites so far, two completed. The annoying thing is that most of my invites arrived within 4 weeks of the Aug MCAT scores release but since then everything has slowed down. Anyway, it is still relatively early in the process. The game is just heating up, so cheer up y'all.

I took mcat in aug 2nd time this year. My app. file at most was completed just when they got my scores, so I had no delay. I have 3 interview invites so far; haven't heard about interview from the other 8 I've applied to.
