This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

University of Nebraska.....!! Worst school in the world, they take your money ($70) and still rejected me pre secondary.

I looked up both Indiana U and U of Nebraska on the selection spreadsheet and didn't see any "very few oos" warnings. Is the spreadsheet not enough info to use while applying? I believe I came across another med school that wasn't marked on the spreadsheet but that allowed very little OOS applicants.

Man, I'm glad I didn't apply to Indiana. Don't be too discouraged, peeps.

You have solid stats, you'll get in this time. Do you have a connection to IU? Just curious why apply to a school that accepts <15% OOS on your 3rd attempt - seems like a long shot? St L on the other hand takes 70+% OOS with similar stats... GOOD LUCK!

Good point I just added St. Louis... thank you! 🙂

I got rejected from UW pre-secondary....

but again it was OOS thing, didn't feel too bad about it, but it was the first so it def stung 🙁

no the spreadsheet is not enough, its only a starting point. Id always recomend doing your own search. I applied to Univ nebraska just because it seemed to me they like people who are interested in possibly rural med or disadvantaged applicants. Thats me exactly so i thought why not:shrug:...i had fap too so it wasnt really wasting more then 30 bucks so i didnt care.

Have any of you been rejected from any schools for 2010 yet? Just got rejected from Indiana

I loved Buffy. We are talking about the same Buffy right? Best show ever. Seriously.

Yup, in my middle school- early high school years I was kind of obsessed with buffy. I had all of the books, the year book, I wrote class book reports on those books, I clipped pictures from magazines, I had buffy posters in my bedroom. THANK GOD I got over that!!!

why ? I love holding onto childhood idols...i still have a select spider-man things in my room.

yeah, no. always better to trust the MSAR (an official publication) over a spreadsheet made by an SDNer, even though the spreadsheet is amazing and helpful.

IU and UN are both under 15% OOS according MSAR

right, that's the source i'd use for the ultimate decision-making stuff.

I was rejected from University of South Dakota because I am oos within a week of the AMCAS going out.

What is really weird about that is that the matriculant stats for SD are low.

MCAT 28, GPA 3.54.

With my 34 MCAT and 3.97 GPA I thought I would at least have a shot there, but apperently not.

Even stranger is that I did get secondaries from every other school except for Harvard which I have not yet heard from.

This includes: U of Wisconsin, U of Chicago, U of Miami, U of Hawaii, Chicago Med school and Wisconsin Med school.

They all have higher matriculant stats then U of SD and I my application is still alive in all of them.

keep in mind they could just think not to waste their time with you b/c you will probably go somewhere else. this does happen.

university of florida rejected me. i'm also expecting my indiana rejection soon

This school may have a different philosophy with how they admit applicants. For example Howard, not a top tear institution but still a very good one, admits more on how you can serve your community then your numbers ( numbers are still important however).
But you could have a 4.0 and a 37 MCAT and still not get in EVERYWHERE you apply, remember you aren't the only applicant with those stats.

Have any of you been rejected from any schools for 2010 yet? Just got rejected from Indiana

So I have just read your MD applicants page, this is your third cycle?
I also noticed you are applying to only 12 schools, why is this? Is money an issue? Because if so I do believe fee waivers are available. At the same time ,for the numbers have, and with the good amount of EC's you are not still not receiving very many interviews which demonstrates it is not just a problem with bad interviewing skills.

How confident are you that your letters of recomendation are good ones? And you may want to take another look at how you are writing your personal statement.

Good luck and I wish you the best this cycle! You will be a doctor eventually, don't stress it and keep your chin up champ!👍

I'm sorry to see these rejections. Good luck in other schools, guys.

hey redrower...shouldn't you be working? dont make me come over to your lab and tell your boss.

ive been here since 8. already done half my stuff for the day; probably gonna leave relatively early

right, that's the source i'd use for the ultimate decision-making stuff.

From what I understand, the selection spreadsheet is precisely the MSAR, just in spreadsheet form. This is what I heard from another SDNer; is it not true?

And in response to my initial confusion, although UIndiana and UNebraska both didn't have any red "few OOS" warnings, I discovered that the spreadsheet has a %OOS Acceptance column, which clearly shows a tiny % of OOS acceptees for both schools. I don't know why these schools were not tagged but I'm now only regarding the aforementioned column for info.

I'm from MN, and I didn't apply to South Dakota because they are very selective towards in-state! The MSAR says, "Priority for supplemental applications is given to legal residents of South Dakota, non-residents with strong ties to South Dakota, and Native Americans affiliated with federally recognized tribes in the region." I'm willing to bet that the 10 OOS matriculants listed in the MSAR were all from the second 2 categories. Just my opinion. Maybe I'd stand a chance being from Minnesota and being a neighbor, but I doubt it!

If you look through the SS forum, you'll see a few rejections here and there. People have been rejected from Mayo, as well as a few other places.

i volunteer in the er at uw hospital. i volunteer at meriter nursing home. i am starting ems as soon as my license is processed. Hopefully all of that will fix my app.

it would be so easy to figure out who I am it isn't even funny...

I just got a rejection email from Eastern Virginia... First one so far.

Have any of you been rejected from any schools for 2010 yet? Just got rejected from Indiana

The first one sucks hard...I know what you feel. I got rejected by Indiana, but in the end it did not matter because I got into 5 schools (a couple of which are CLEARLY better schools)

Hold your head up and power through... If I can get into schools when I have a lower MCAT and worse EC's I am sure you will eventually get in. Most schools don't start inviting ppl for interviews until sept or Oct (a couple start in Aug). So the first things you will get back will most likely be rejections. It is all part of the process.

Good Luck

Just a heads up about Indiana - they favor Illinois and Michigan residents for OOS. The rest are fubar.

Mayo has started sending out rejection letters? Wow that is good news as I have yet to get one!

I know that Mayo has no secondary, just shakes you down for $100 to read your AMCAS and then decides if LORs are worth it.

I at least made it to the LORs stage and so far am still hanging in there.

well the spreadsheet uses the "LizzyM" score, which was created by LizzyM. although she is an adcom, the numbers are still not "official" like the stuff in the MSAR.

a good example of why you shouldn't trust that spreadsheet as much is your experience-- little mistake in setting up the sheet and someone is led to believe they have a shot unless they look closely. 😉

A wise man once said: "It's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get back up". Don't let rejections bog you down too much, every school looks for something different. Just keep putting good time into your secondaries and you'll be golden.

rejected by nevada as CA resident. boo!!

Haha, I didnt start watching it until High School, when it was in season 4 or so. But I went back and watched em all and just loved it.

Hate to admit it, but I was hooked on BTVS too. :-x It was such an entertaining show!

Ah-HA! You are all falling into my master plan: wait until everybody is rejected from everywhere and THEN submit my primary...actually no.
