many of you have been so encouraging and helpful throughout this application process and i love this community where fellow applicants can share experiences, stories, etc. so i'm just posting this to say i'm really, really, really sad. i'm on the verge of crying. 🙁 i opened my email inbox like 30 minutes ago. received my first rejection.

Did you interview there? In sure you have other schools right.

no.. they emailed me to tell me they regret that they aren't able to offer me an interview

Well their loss! How many other schools do you have.

5, but haven't heard anything since i submitted my supplementals.. i see people have received interview invites from the same schools i applied to yet i'm here with none

thank you everyone. i haven't even told my family & friends yet. once i saw that rejection, the first place i thought of was this forum. 🙄 i guess it hurts a lot because it was my top choice..

@Michael_Scott ,
i know my GPA isn't great, but i thought my DAT score would make up for it....

Sorry to hear that, I too was rejected and couldn't/didn't tell anyone about it.

When I got my rejection letter via snail mail, I just scoffed to myself and laughed. I went through a lot of trouble trying to communicate to this particular school too, and in the end they just tossed me aside. Welp, I tossed them aside too.

In the trash.

Keep your head up! Rejections hurt, but this cycle isn't over yet.

Thank you @okiedokeartichoke 🙂 i'll keep my head up and look forward to those post-dec interviews!

Oh everyones going to get those letters, even the best of the best, so don't feel too bad.

Save your rejection letters for when you finally get in. I've been doing it - got over 30 of them saved up, and will certainly get a bunch more this cycle, but it will be especially sweet when you look back at them with an acceptance in hand.

child please, you worry too much. those are great. You made up for your low GPA with good DAT. Get off SDN and go do something fun. Wait for the interviews, they will surely come with those stats.

No worries, first rejection is the worst in my opinion. You've never experienced it before, but you should be ok with your stats. Trust me this feeling of rejection and failing continues throughout dental school, just get used it to and come back stronger!

You're not alone, my friend.

I know what you're going through- I received a rejection within 2 months of applying. It was a big blow to morale.

However, within a few months after that, I received interview invites from my top choices. Today, I look back and laugh- this one school may have rejected me, but it's all good....life works out in the end.

You may have the exact same thing happen to you. Sending my best thoughts/vibes your way.

No problem. I actually just dug up the e-mail. I got it 2 weeks after submitting my AADSAS and it contained the following sentence: "the Committee has not selected you to interview for admission to our program." It stung for sure.

But until your thread today, I had forgotten about it. The same thing will happen to you- once you get a few interviews, you'll focus on them and won't recall this incident unless someone expressly brings up rejections/etc.

Good luck.

Where did you apply? I got my first rejection email and it seriously hit me. A few weeks later, I got my first interview invite so keep your head up!

Broooo, I was in the exact same position as you last year. You're gonna feel like **** now, but trust me, you'll get used to the pain and forget about it. All you can do for now is learn from it and improve yourself. And you have 5 other schools to hear from! There are still plenty of opportunities for you to get in, so don't worry.

Keep at it. I already have 2 rejections; there's a light at the end of the tunnel. Our stats are quite similar lol

Everyone here is right. At least you have some closure on that school. Some schools will not say anything at all until maybe a week before the start of the school year. At least this school had the decency to let you know right away.

I was firing up the grill one afternoon to make some chicken. I have a Weber kettle (charcoal grill). Anyway, I received a rejection letter in the mail right as that was happening. It went right into the chimney starter to get my coals going. The best part is, it was printed on really nice cardstock paper so it worked really well to get those coals nice and hot.

Think about it this way: how many acceptances do you really need?

Good luck and keep your head up! Your hard work will pay off.

I cried when I got my first rejection. I cried hard. It then took me almost two months after that to get my first interview invite. The wait was agonizing and I was positive I wasn't going to get in anywhere. Slowly but surely, interview invites and later acceptances came in. Now I'm graduating in 2020 with DMD after my name. Keep your chin up and keep going forward.
