Rejections?

Hey me too! I just retook my OAT and did better (from 350 to 370 AA...now with all sections above 300). When I signed to take the OAT, I hadn't been rejected yet, and signed up to send my scores to SUNY...think they might reconsider the rejection with a new score?

They might, but I wouldn't get my hopes too high. What was your GPA? The average at sco so far this year is 3.6, I've also heard there are a lot more applicants this year. Good Luck!
 
Consider your non acceptance a good luck omen.
Optometrist pay is low and there arnt any jobs out there.
Get into a different field while you still can.
Also visit optometrysucks @yahoo.com to find out how it really is.

There are a TON more applicants this year!! I didn't know that 3.6 was the average so far... did admissions tell you?
 
how do you guys know there are more applicants this year? overall or just for SCO?
 
No Waterloo for me! Did anybody else hear bad news from them?
 
Yeah I got a rejection letter from them too and this is my second year applying 🙁. In the email they said that "You should be aware that this refusal is not a reflection of your academic ability. You have a solid academic average." So, I'm assuming it wasn't my GPA but at the same time I obtained a 360AA/390TS on my OAT, I did quite a bit of shadowing over 2 years, I have quite a bit of extracurricular/volunteer experience, and I've been doing research (although in an unrelated field) since the summer. I don't know maybe I was being too overconfident in thinking that I'd atleast get an interview? Any opinions on this would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Thats weird, with those stats and extra extracurricular i would think you'd get a interview no questions asked. Obviously, theres some subjective nature when adcoms rate applicants but still doesnt explain your situation. How long you been going to school for? did you shadow an opt?

I'm in my fourth year currently. And yeah I did shadow an opt over 2 summers.

Wow, that does sound weird. If I were you, I would call the school and ask them directly what the issue is. I would think most of the schools would be pretty good about telling you what you could improve on.

What school was it that you got this letter from? Was this the second time you applied there specifically? If so, maybe they were looking for something specific in a reapplicant...some sort of major indicator that you've improved your application from the first time.

Anyway, did you apply to multiple schools?

I don't know who this guy is kidding. Optometry is rated amongst the top 5 professions in North America. As long as people need to see, there will be a job out there for you. It is a more diverse field then one is led to believe; research, group practice, solo practice, contact lenses, low vision, vision therapy, the list goes on.

The letter was from Waterloo and I am definately planning on calling them soon. This was my second year applying to them, and personally I think I vastly improved my application from the previous (huge GPA increase, research experience and additional extra-curriculars). I don't really know what else they want?
Thankfully I did apply to other schools (NECO, ICO) so hopefully I hear good news back from them. Just a little disapointed about Waterloo because I would have liked to stay in Canada.
 
No ICO for me but its ok. i kinda had the feeling that was gona happen but had little hope.

Man, that is really disappointing...especially when you feel like you've exhausted all your options.

Good luck with the rest of your applications though. With your stats, it would be really surprising if you didn't get in somewhere.
