Hey guys...

Just figured since we have an 'interview' thread, perhaps a rejection thread would be a great idea. Atleast this way we could kind of 'gauge' where we are in the big scheme of things...Especially if we are waiting to 'hear' from people. I think it would be good to specify if you were rejected after an interview or before.

I'll start:

Rejected after an interview
Univ of Chicago

No interview:
Cornell
MD Anderson

Not heard anything from UCLA, The Harvards, NWU, UIC, Mayo

Last edited:
Cornell
Univ. of Cincinnati
Cleveland Clinic

Haven't heard from many places still either...

you didnt want to go to those places anyway!

Cleveland Clinic....Bastards.

Waiting: BID, BGH, MGH, Stanford, MD Anderson, UW, WU, Duke, Rush, NW, Miami.

Interviews offered: Case, Dartmouth, UMaryland, Vermont

Not offered: UVA, UC Davis, SUNY Upstate

Waiting: Beth Israel, Brigham and Womens

Does anyone know how many fellows Beth Israel and Brigham have?

Miami isnt a very strong program FYI

No love from
Univ. Pitt(still can't believe it)
Stanford

Add Pitt and UoW to the list for me...

Nleeds... I felt the same thing:laugh:

From speaking to people this year, I noticed a couple of things. Everyone gets surprised by either an interview offer or a rejection that they didn't expect. The list of top programs changes from year to year. 😕

declined by Colorado - email
and many still wait to yet reply.....

Sorry for asking this on this thread, but I figure most of you looking at this are applying

When do you start applying, I just started my CA-2 year

I know every program is different but whats the earliest people start applying

also we have a very weak pain dept, is it required to have a letter from a pain doc?

NO HIJACKING THE THREAD! Open a new thread or just "search" for answers to a question that have been asked/answered many times.

Cleveland Clinic
MD Anderson
Colorado 🙁
UTSW
MGH
Kentucky (??wha, wha, what?? You were my safety school!!)

Still waiting to hear from a bunch, called them ALL, but they won't reject me! Just put me out of my misery..."You are in review", is the standard response.

Haven't been rejected by my interviewed locations either.

Someone needs to standardize this process; I would head it up, but in a year I won't care!!

Wow, that was therapeutic. Good luck everyone!

what do you say when you call the programs you haven't heard from yet??

"Thank you for taking the time to review my file. It is much appreciated." That's what I say, or a version similar to that....what else can you say?

It absolutely needs to be standardized, but I think that any option for a match system might be delayed until a decision is made as to whether pain medicine becomes a dedicated specialty. If it does not become its own residency specialty, then I think they should implement a fellowship match system.

Good luck all!

But that would require so many interviews.....and it's hard to get time off, as it is.

bidmc = 5 + 1 (the children's fellow)
bwh = 10

what do you say when you call the programs you haven't heard from yet??

I simply tell them that I applied some time ago and would like to check on the status of my application. That's usually when I'm told that my application is with the program director and is under review. Although, some say that they haven't started reviewing the applications yet. I then try and have some friendly banter with the coordinator and ask when I should expect to hear whether I will get an interview or not.

Of note, Colorado and UTSW coordinators told me I should get a response soon with the above method. Both rejections came the following week, Colorado in email and UTSW in a letter (classy). However, I also was given interviews at programs with the above method. Yet it could have been a coincidence.

immediate pain fellowship opening at indiana university in indianapolis. They need somebody right away before the end of 2009
