I work at an optometrists office and my doctor takes of two days a week and pays relief doctors to come in. I was wondering are they paid salary, hourly, or per patient and how much? I am sure it is different for every practice , but I just wanted to get an idea of it. Also, how much do part-time optometrists(work maybe three days a week at the same practice) get paid?

Any help will be much appreciated!

Depends on where you are located. If you are a regular at the same office, try to work out production based compensation. A per diem is also very common. It is all negotiable. we dont need vacation relief too often because there are four of us, but in the past we have paid $400-$500 per day. Good Luck

I have a friend whose parents are both optometrists, he told me that when they pay someone to cover for them while they go on vacation, etc. they pay them daily. It really depends on where you live and what different ODs prefer.

Also, my optometrist works part-time (about 27 hours a week or so) and he makes over $100,000 a year, but he owns his practice and also owns the Pearle Vision next door.

Most Od's are paid per deim in this situation.
