Religion in Personal statement

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Ultimately, whether the reader(s) is religious or not, faith is very much a part of your subjective reality. If you believe that your desire to become a doctor is rooted in the sense of purpose you derive from your beliefs, your personal statement is a fitting place to talk about that. People aren't going to (or rather shouldn't) get offended by you talking about the impact faith had on your life, because that is very much a genuine truth regardless of one's own beliefs. At some schools, this will even be a big plus for you.

The only thing I would caution against is this:
I open with an experience at my church

You are anchoring your personal statement on a religious experience. Don't overdo it.

Okay, thank you! The hook part is really minimal and not particularly religious, it's just a stepping stone to talk about my medical experience 🙂
