Hi, I am a first year MBBS student in Saudi Arabia. I am interested in pursuing integrated thoracic surgery in US. I am looking for remote research opportunities preferably related to cardiac stuff. My college doesn’t have any research opportunities and all that because it’s quite new. Can anyone please help?

Send a bunch of cold emails and hope someone bites.

Wish I had something more helpful to say, but the honest truth is you have to be extremely persistent and extremely lucky. You could try and target faculty members who graduated from your school, or at least from your home country, as they may be more responsive. But realistically speaking, integrated CT surgery is extremely competitive even for USMD grads, so while I hate to be so bluntly negative... chances are you are going to need to think about what kind of backup option might be attainable for you.

Best option would be gen surg residency followed by CT fellowship but even that’s pretty unlikely since any gen surg residency is tough for an IMG and then on top of that you probably need an academic residency program to have a good shot at CT

So I should email professors? Or residents?
