is anyone going to rent a car while visiting/interviewing at Western University? The hotel i am staying at is 1 mile away from school. I wanted to rent a car so i can check out the area and do some sight seeing.

What does everyone think?

Thanks in advance.

Are you 25?

If yes... then definitely rent a car.

If no.... then rent a bicycle.

You can rent a car from Enterprise (I think) if you are younger than 25. You just have to pay a little bit extra for the insurance or something.

And yes, you'd probably need a car because there's very little to see in Pomona. Go west and check out Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, etc etc., essentially, Los Angeles. 🙂

are you guys flying into LAX or ontario airport - and I was looking on google maps and there appears to be a bus stop/amtrac stop right next to the school (and the motel .5 miles from there)

what are the options of taking a bus to that station ?

I am staying at a hotel 1 mile away from campus (comfort inn i believe) and flying into LAX the 14th. I really considered renting a car to explore the day before, I would be interested in splitting the cost with someone.

I highly recommend a car... Especially in that area.

Traffic here is HORRIBLE!! but I guess that is a part of living in LA 😉

Yeah, if you will be driving around LA, I suggest driving on the freeway b/w 10:30-12pm and anytime after 7:30 pm depending on which freeway. 🙂

Don't forget the GPS. I'm a native and rely on that little machine all the time. If you're going to LA, bring some change and extra cash for parking.

ok so for my interview on the 15th - i tried to get a flight from houston to Ontario airport in the morning before my 1115 interview, but there wasnt an early enough flight

LAX was the only airport that had a flight that early (gets into LA at like 920 - leaving me 1.5 hours to get to WesternU with a rental car the morning of - should i do this, or should I fly into ontario airport the day before (friday and stay in a close by cheap hotel)

is there some sort of bus or train i can take from Ontario airport to western (bc there is a bus stop on google maps .5 miles from campus and the hotel)

Rent from Hertz they have a promotion code online to waive the under 25 fee. Saves a lot of money that way.

oh thanks a bunch - you wouldent happen to have the promotion code would you?

I'd fly in the night before. It only saves you a few bucks to fly in the day of. Flying in the day of is quite stressful, because 1) there could be delays with the flight or baggage ( unless you carry on), 2) you don't know the area, 3) it takes time to get the rental, and 4) LAX and Pomona is quite far, about an hour drive. The last thing you want is a bag full of stress coming into western. Remember, it's going to be a long day, approximately 6 hours. You can do the day of, but it'll be a tight schedule. Personally, I'd opt for the night before, and stay at a decent hotel. This gives you time to rest, calm your nerves, and prepare for the interview. There's no second chance on first impressions, so showing your best is key. BTW, I'll see you on the 15th. Good luck.

ty man, you too

yah i think thats the better idea - so your flying into ontario and are you renting a car? or taking public transportation

PC# 144314. The code is good thru September 30th. I used it last week when I flew into LAX.

thanks very much, but for some reason its not doing too much and its still charging me 100 dollars a day for a rental - maybe bc im picking up the car at ontario and dropping it off at LAX?

argh

lol, i tried the price with and without the coupon code, but with the code it actually was 8 dollars more expensive lol - and theres still that pesky 30 dollar age differential

Oh maybe the code doesn't work anymore. I used the code last week for my 2 day rental with insurance and it was only $80 total after fees. The receipt shows that it was suppose to be an additional $30/day without the promotion code. It was at LAX.

Renting a car is great. I took a week off to visit CA and go into LA, the Hills, and explore the Coachella Valley.
