What do you do if you repeated a course and did worse in it the second time around? For fun I took an intermediate ceramics class at my junior college (after having received my associates). The grade was solely based on attendance, so I received B's my 2nd and 3rd time around. My initial grade was an A. So how does that get entered? Thanks!

If your lower grades are on the same transcripts as your higher grade (I'm assuming they are) then you have to list it as a repeat. Just to be sure you should send an email and ask. I sent an email about repeat courses to this email and got a quick answer. Good luck

No-one is going to give a flying poop-nugget about the ceramics grade if you did well in your core classes and the rest of your app is strong. 😀

Yes, you have to list it as a repeat. Why did you get a lower grade if you don't mind me asking?

I took it five years later as a housewife looking for an excuse to get out of the house. The grading is based on attendance. There were things in my life relating to my family that were more important than a ceramics class. I took it purely for fun. You could only miss one class without out lowering your grade. I just love pottery. I have a potter's wheel and all the accessories to go with it minus the kiln, so that is where the community college comes in. I could throw as much as I wanted there and it allowed me a little bit of breathing space and adult conversation. ABC's and the Wheel on the Bus get old pretty quickly. I had my daughter at 24; none of my friends had kids and most of the other housewives in my neighborhood were in their 40's and absolutely infatuated witht their kids. Maybe some of you out there can relate? Most Housewives are really lame and I needed something to do. I never dreamed that I would be applying to medical school 5 years later and that it would have any impact on my GPA. I'm sure it sounds ludicrous to some of you. But, hey, thanks for the imput. I do appreciate it. 😀

No matter what grade you got the second time, the more recent grade applies to the GPA calculation in the DO application. However, I wouldn't fret about this one course. Most importantly, the science GPA is more important as well as the "overall" application. Hope this helps and good luck!!!
