Request for Interview Date Change

In the invite, did they specify the date or did you choose it before realizing that it conflicted with another interview? This is an important distinction. I don't think many schools force a date on you, but rather give you several options to choose from. If it's the latter, it might reflect poorly on you because it shows a level of dis-organization. In that case, I would move whichever interview you are less interested in without mentioning that you are rescheduling due to another interview conflict.
Just be polite and say that you made a mistake in scheduling and hope for the best.

I had to reschedule one of my interviews for the same reason.
I told them that I had a previously scheduled interview on the date (I had scheduled it about 2 weeks prior). I was told that the Admissions Committee would have to choose a new date for me - I didn't have any options. It took them about a month to get back to me with a new date, and they wanted me to come in 2 weeks (kinda short notice, but it worked out).
On the other hand, when I called a different school to change the date, I was able to give them 3 dates that worked for me, and they called me the next week with an interview on one of the days that I picked.
I think most schools are pretty nice/flexible about changing dates. The first school that I talked about seemed to be the only exception that I've run into.

I've requested date changes from a few schools, with no problems. I didn't tell them I had other interviews, I just told them I wasn't available on the specific day, though they might have assumed I was interviewing.

Also, don't forget that it's usually secretaries in the admissions office who take care of interview scheduling. These people usually have no say in whether you get admitted or not, and changing your interview date is simply an administrative task.
