Required to submit all transcripts?

When I start applying to vet schools through VMCAS, am I required to send in every transcript from every institution from which I take classes? I would like to take a low-key online organic chemistry course at the UC Berkeley website this summer in order to prepare myself for orgo when I take it this fall at my undergrad school, but if I'm required to send all my transcripts (including the UC Berkeley one), it will look like I've repeated the course.

Yes. Every grade that you report on VMCAS must be accompanied by an official transcript from the institution where it was earned.

I took two college courses while I was in high school and didn't report those grades or submit my transcript for them. It never even occurred to me to do so. I did submit it later because it has a course that will be helpful if I want to pursue a psych PhD later and they never said anything about not having reported it when applying to vet school so I guess it wasn't an issue.

As long as it doesn't go into the degree you earn and isn't something that you particularly care if they know about then I don't think you have to submit it or report the grade.

You are required to submit transcripts for every place you've been to, but if you're only doing it as a warm-up (which I think is a wonderful idea) and are planning to do "the real thing" later, then I would suggest having it be an audit. That way it shows that you were just sitting in on it and that the second time -at your undergrad- is the first attempt for credit and is thus not a repeat. I would still check with the schools you're applying to, if you're not sure.

As I said though, this has the potential to ensure a significantly higher grade in orgo. I did alright in it, but it would have been much easier to remember everything if I'd heard it before. Great idea, if you have the time and finances 🙂.

ooooooh, I think I misunderstood your question. If this one course is not attached to a degree, and you choose NOT to have it on your VMCAS, then I don't think you'd need to worry about submitting the UC Berkeley transcript. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

But, as I was saying in my original response, if it goes on the VMCAS, an official transcript also needs to be sent to your schools.


Also: you could always report both grades and then explain why you took it twice in the explanation section of the VMCAS.

I think you're required to add to VMCAS and submit a transcript from every school, even if you only attended for a summer/class or whatever. That said, it may not be a huge deal (unless you get caught), but if the class is going to show up on your transcripts at your home university (which in most cases will end up being the case) you should probably send a transcript from it anyway.

I would call one of the vet schools you are interested in applying to (or go in and talk to them face to face, i find it easier to communicate this way). Ask them what they think. What is the title of the course? does in say intro to organic chemistry, or is is straight up organic chemistry? The title of the course might explain to for you to the ad com, and you may not need to worry about it. Maybe talk to the UC Berkley people and ask if other students have done this before and what their solution was...

VMCAS specifically states that all classes from all post secondary schools should be submitted. This included, in my case, clases taken in high school in 1995, classes taken at community college that were 'lifestyle' classes like ballroom dancing, and classes taken for CE credits. I specifically asked VMCAS about this, as ballroom dancing and vegan cooking aren't exactly pertinant to vet school. The answer was all means all.

It may not ever make a difference, but if there is ever a question, it could look bad.

Auditing sounds like a reasonable option, but I don't know if that produces a transcript (it depends on the school, I audited courses at 3 universities that I needed to design zoo labs for, one produced transcripts, the others did not.)
