Requirements for med school

I know every school has different requirements. But I just want to know generally. Here is what I got so far:

-Bachelor's degree (biology/chemistry preferred)
-join organization and clubs
-*volunteer
-*job shadowing
-*clinical hours

Anything else?
Note: please recommend number of hours of there is an asterisk ***

1. there is no preference given to bio/chem majors

2. The only things that are truly required across the board are classes like Biology, Chem, Ochem, Physics, (Biochem, Psych and Sociology are new I think) and the MCAT. And Letters of Recommendation. Go on school specific websites to find more specifics.

Everything else is more/less recommended, but Ill add a few things to your list
3. Research
4. Some schools give heavy preference to IS applicants
5. You should have enough hours to consider it meaningful

Don't forget biochem is really beginning to creep into school requirements. It's on the MCAT so many more schools need you to have it.

Also, don't just join an activity or club. You must be ACTIVE in it. Assume some sort of leadership role. Actually ENJOY it and make it meaningful for yourself. Don't just join a bunch of clubs to pad your resume, adcoms will see right through that. Clinical experience, by far, is the most important though.

I actually searched through my UG's course bulletins....and I emailed the schools I applied to that require biochem and asked if it was okay. I haven't taken it at all, yet.
