My school requires all students to have completed the online portion of BLS before orientation week, with the written exam being taken during the first day of orientation. Why do this if we're not going to have patient contact until we're third years? 😕

The vast majority of medical schools have patient contact starting as a first year. Don't know about your school. Also, are you really complaining? BLS is the easiest thing in the world. Everyone should be BLS certified.

I'm not complaining I was just wondering why I would get certified just to have it renewed before 3rd year when I'll actually need it.

Are you going to be setting foot at all in the hospital? I once worked in a hospital setting -- not on the wards -- but we were all required to be BLS-trained.

Well...I guess technically I am since the school is a section of the medical center. That's a good point to bring up actually.
