Requisites in Dermatology

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i'm interested in getting this book also. Do any of the residents on here recommend it?

I see the dermpath book here on the resident table at the dermpath lab. I've been using it all month. It's pretty helpful. Good images. Not too in depth in each condition and probably isn't going to help with a lot of the variations.

it's a good series for some topics like surgery and cosmetics, which are generally covered only briefly in the standard texts. some residents use the path book for basic path studying (vs. rapini). i've only read the surgery book and seen the path book, but it generally seems like a useful series of books.

there are so many ways to study as a derm resident, you basically just have to define how you want to go about studying. the standard weekly-reading texts tend to be andrews/bolognia/fitzpatrick (though fitz is extremely detailed and therefore less useful for studying in my opinion) and there's a 600+ page review that galderma/steifel put out every year for in-service studying. there are also various path books, review books, and series like "requisites." everyone comes up with a different combo of references that work for them.

A few residents in my program are using that book now, after having used Rapini during their first year. I was tempted to go with the Requisites book as well, after also having Rapini. But it wasn't answering all the questions we had during sign out. Weedon was doing a better job. 🙂

As werd said, there are many ways to learn Derm. My advice, compare books in person before buying anything. Be patient and buy smart! Same goes for buying your big go to Derm book. I have already sold back one book and I am only in my 4th month of residency. And no, it wasn't Rook. I really like that book. But others may not and will go with Fitz or Bolognia.

Oh, and a number of books have online goodies. It's something else to consider when buying.
