I am currently taking a prereq chemistry class for PT. I have been accepted but am struggling in the class. Our chem department is known on campus for rarely handing out grades above a C and right now I am sitting at a high D. Will my admission be rescinded if i don't end up with a C???

Sadly, yes :/ For my school I have to get at least a B in physiology and if I get anything below that (even a B-) they'll give my spot to a person who's on the waitlist that did get a B in the class. That's just how it goes! Google youtube videos for help, get a tutor, get a group of students together that are in your class and study! Do ANYTHING you can (okay almost anything) to get a good grade in that class. Admissions doesn't care if it's a difficult class, they hold everyone to the same standards

An acceptance into a program is contingent upon successfully completing any outstanding prerequisites. And as far as I know, you have to get a C or higher in any outstanding prerequisites. So, yes, your acceptance can be denied if you don't hold up your end of the "deal".

Keep working hard. I know how frustrating it is to have a bad department at a university. I would go talk to the professor and tell him/her your situation. Go to extra office hours. Do whatever you can to make him/her see that you're trying your best. Find a way to get a C or higher. I know you can do it 🙂

* or, as mrleroy said, you may even have to get a B or higher. Regardless, do whatever is in your power to raise that grade! *

Going to the professor is a good idea! Ask for clarification on topics or concepts you find difficult! You still have over half of the semester left, so you have time to raise your grade. If your professor knows you have to get at least a C and they see you're coming in for extra help they MIGHT even bump your grade up. I'm not saying you should plan on it, but it's been known to happen 🙂

Agree with above, go to EVERY single office hour the professor offers. Go to all the TA hours too. Hire a tutor ASAP through the school....maybe even 2 tutors. Don't even think about the cost. You HAVE to pass. If you don't, it will cost you way more to reapply and be out of work a year.

Exactly. You have been accepted...getting A's finally doesn't really matter anymore...as they say in business school, "C's get degrees" for you at this point, OP. But if you don't get a C you are definitely gonna be hosed. Unless it is possible to retake the class in the summer before PT school starts. Depends if you are going to a program that starts after the summer is over or not. Of course check this school's policy on pre-reqs and make sure a C is acceptable. If your at a high D right now I don't think getting a C will be a problem.

Honestly this question could have just been answered by looking at the school's website now that I think about it...but either way, good luck!

Also, if it makes you feel better, there are a lot of students going through the same dilemma (myself included). I'm struggling to keep my head above water for my last physics prerequisite (at a university known for a bad physics department) , but I'm literally doing everything in my power to get a good grade. Office hours....if nothing else, it shows you're committed.

Again, good luck. I know you can do it.

And keep us posted on how you do because we are rooting for you!

It definitely depends on the professor and school, but I would not be above explaining your situation to the professor. I know people who have magically gotten a final grade of C in a class they were failing during their last semester... because of curves...

I have seen that happen. I had a 94% in my Biology class and the next highest grade was a 74%. That person got an A also. I wished the professor would have excused me from the final🙂

Wow! That's a HUGE gap! But yeah, professors understand (good professors, that is) that sometimes you just need a miracle in the form of an awesome curve. Bless those professors. Haha

LOL yeah I agree. He came straight from Slovakia and we only had 9 people left at the end. I think he was really concerned because 31 people dropped. I thought he taught well though. Hard but fair.

When my physics teacher posted the grades for the class I had a B but one of my scores was missing and once that was fixed I was 0.2% below the lowest grade listed on their as having received and A. I pointed this out to him and he bumped me up to the A. When the teacher doesn't use +/- grading, that bump from an A to a B (rather than like a B+ to an A-) can make a significant difference in your pre-req GPA. So if it's a borderline case it can't hurt to ask. Obviously if you just flat out didn't earn an A have some dignity and don't go asking for one. But if it is really borderline sometimes teachers will help you out.

What could they rescind admission for after the school does a background check? Not that I'm worried, just purely curious!!

Uh...well any crimes that are on your record that you didn't report on PTCAS.
