Would it be a good idea to study for the DAT and do summer research with a professor at my school? I am setting aside the whole summer just for DAT, but am thinking about throwing in research. The professor teaches chem so maybe that could be an opportunity to ask questions.

What do you think?

You should do it!
My friends had the whole summer off to study for DAT but it wasn't productive cuz you know you have time to procrastinate.
Do something else beside DAT (research, volunteer, GE classes, work) so you don't get burned out 😉

Be careful with who you volunteer/work for.

I tried to do two at once, and within weeks I was knee-deep in lots of devotion towards my research goals, and I lost focus of the DAT and it set me back a little.

Just an FYI. 😉

It all depends on the type of research you are doing and the necessary time constraints. Personally, I had no trouble doing research and volunteering while studying for the DATs this past summer. In fact I think that might have even been helpful in the sense that I knew that my "free time" from research/volunteering could not be wasted and had to be spent studying for the DAT's. However, I did complete my research and volunteering positions a good 2 weeks before my test date so that i could devote all that time to studying....hope this helps...
