Hi Everyone. So, I'm facing the possibly of not getting accepted into graduate school this time around and I am trying to prepare for the worst. I have been applying to research assistant jobs through various job seeking sites and was wondering if getting a job as a research assistant in another social science field (other than Psychology)/ not aligned with my personal interests is detrimental/not helpful to a Ph.D (Clinical Psychology) application?

I have been told that any research experience is helpful. With that being said, if you obtained an RA position that wasn't in your field, you could also supplement it with a volunteer position in research that aligns with your goals!

IMO it would be better than having no research experience at all. I would aim for something that is easier to tie into something in psychology and also shoot for more experimental or at least quantitative research. Actually, now that I think about it, is there any true experimental design in other social sciences?

That makes sense. Thank you!
