Do med schools look down on research classes taken for credit since they're known to boost GPA? I'm very interested in doing research but don't know if I have the time to make it another "extracurricular".

What do you guys think about research classes taken for credit? Will it put you at a disadvantage/advantage in anyway?

I took research for credit...that's just how it's done at some schools. It wasn't my goal to boost my GPA, but we needed a certain # of research credit hours to graduate with honors.

This was the case at my school as well. If you wanted to graduate with honors via an honors thesis you had to take a sequence of upper level research laboratory credits. I did not take these credits to boost my GPA, rather I was interested in conducting research and therefore took the classes. If you're given an opportunity to conduct research (via credit or not) I would strongly urge you to take the opportunity, if you're truly interested in conducting research.
