I'm starting research literally this week (6/6) and I want to have this on my application so they know I'm getting involved. My problem-- is that I've only been assigned the GENERAL topic I'm going to be working on, and haven't had any experience as far as what I'll actually be doing in the lab. I have a general idea, but would that suffice for the descriptive part? If they question it, say at an interview, I would be able to give them a better and more accurate description of what I'll be doing. I obviously don't want to delay submitting my app, so don't bother with those tidbits of 'helpful info' ;P

With the bold'd attitude above.... Im sure SDN'er will be rushing in their responses.....anyways...

So let me get this straight.... You are starting a research project today (literally), but you want to be able to describe it like you've been running the show all along? Hmm....

Lol, if you read what I wrote then no that's not how I was going to describe it at all haha. I said if I were to describe in a general sense what I'll be doing... would that be okay for the descriptive part of this section? I'm not going to lie or beef things up to be more than what they are, it's just something I'd like to have on my app since by the time dental schools will see it, I'll be well into the research as far as what my duties are, etc.

And I didn't mean that to be rude, I've read a lot on this forum and I like your responses in particular because you seem to know a fairly great deal about all things pre-dental! I just get frustrated for responses that aren't truly helpful when most applicants feel at least a tad bit scared and need all the guidance we can get! 👍

hmm... how much space they give you? is it the usual 170 characters? If so, you probably have no choice but to be very general (not enough space)

As far as "is it okay"... sure why not? I don't see what the problem is, theyr probably gonna also glance over the date. It would be rather odd for them to expect a Scientific America grade literature from someone who started the project 2 days ago

I'm doing the same thing you are. I'm starting research this fall and my professor and I are going to discuss what exactly I'm doing sometime next week so I'm waiting until then to get that description and then I'm going to add under my research experience with dates starting in the fall and ending in the spring or summer, depending. After that I'll submit my application. That way I'll be far into my research so during interviews I have something to talk about. So my advice is to put down as much information as you can, even if its a description of what you will be doing, every little bit helps! Good luck!
