The Nation Institutes of Health have research electives and so do many major universities (Click for some month-long examples click here, here, and here). You can find others that are longer if that's what you want. Most schools will have these electives arranged by clinical department. So if you want to do ortho research, you'll need to look at the ortho department website. If you don't find anything you like, you might still want to talk to the person in charge of one of these research rotations. They may be able to arrange something specifically for you or they may be able to point you to someone more knowledgeable.
