Research experience here

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Nanpa, this is a pretty broad question but the answer would be do what you have the best exposure to. If you're still in undergrad, find a lab at your school that will teach you about lab-work and provide opportunities to do some solid research. This might lead to an abstract, poster, or publication. Maybe talk to a professor you've created a rapport with during class or ask an advisor if they know of PIs who are willing to take in students.

If you're out of school, this method may still work, but there are more opportunities (along with more time) to devote energy to. Academic hospitals are probably the next best thing doing basic or clinical research. Ultimately, find something you think you can exert yourself in and get something out of it, either more knowledge or hopefully achieve some sort of recognition for your work.

Have you had any science classes with a full-time faculty? The best way is to approach them showing interest in gaining research experience. If their lab is too full at the moment, they can always point you to some other PI's with whom you can talk! 🙂

I found my lab through a guy I knew, he was going off to medical school so I took over his job.

Hey guys thanks a lot for your replies. I have actually gotten into a research with a doctor. We are trying to do a research on what might be the cause of autism. So its really great doing the actual testing of clients, and trying to come up to some conclusion on our data.
I hope this will be okay for med school. Not only Im a doing it for med school I happen to work with children with autism and I have some experience with them...
