Hi,
Thank you for all the helpful replies. I have a second question about post-bac programs. What is the extent of research experience available in a post-bac program? I spoke with a rep from JHU who told me that research is possible but not at the expense of clinical experience. Although I want this experience if I go the MD route, my true interest lies in research 😍 and I am considering a doing a MD/PhD or PhD program. Will a post-bac give me the research I need to get into one of these kinds of programs?

C'mon, 50 looks and no comments? 👎

Will a post-bacc "give" you research experience? Probably not; most likely you have to go out and find labs you like. That's actually good, since no advisor will be able to give you a definitive answer.

At first I surprised by JHU's answer, then I saw their logic. Their goal is to get you to medical school ASAP. In their eyes, focusing on clinical stuff is probably the best way to get there. You'd be "interfering" with that by getting involved with too much research.

It sounds like you don't know what you want yet. Therefore, doing something formal could actually be bad for you right now, even though you could get into one. Do something a la carte like Maryland, and while you're there, look into a few labs and see what sticks, IMHO. Do not be afraid to cast a wide net.

Man, I hate having insomnia....
