Hey guys

I was wondering about what's osteopathic med schools take on undergraduate research? I know that for MD it's critical but I'm not quite sure on the DO perspective. I'm asking because I have zero experience in a research lab. The only labs I've been in are those that were combined with lecture. So is it a must for DO schools?

I think research helps out but it is not critical. I did not do any research either, and I got some love from schools. I would focus more on participating in both medical and non medical volunteer opportunities. I think those types of activities are better to have on the application and also pretty fun! That being said if you do have an opportunity to do some research go for it.

Nope and they are far more likely to look at your volunteering than research.

Friend of mine just interviewed (about 2 weeks ago) at a DO school and she said they talked about her research for about 10 minutes. She said the interviewers were very interested in it.

She got her acceptance call 2 days ago.

My brother is already at that school as a MS1 and he did no research.

Its not required unless you are pursuing some sort of DO/PhD program. I have however found that a good majority of interviewees at my school had some sort of research experience. It acts as a talking point if you have a basic sciences professor interview you.

Thanks guys I really appreciate your responses

I had 0 research and recieved plenty of love this cycle! It's definitely not a deal break for DO, but make sure you have other interesting activities in your application. That may have been why it was easier for adcoms to pass over my lack of research.

PM me if you have any other questions!
