Hi all, I am new to this forum and I am a foreign graduate. I have been trying to get into a psychiatry residency here but seems like its really tough. I dont know whether i will match this year or not and therefore, not to waste any time, I want to get started with research. i have volunteered in a few research projects in the past and have also written 1-2 review summaries in the past, but none of them have been published yet. As I am really interested in Psychiatry, i want to write a few articles and get them published, by next match season.
Anyone has an idea on how to go for it. i am not enrolled as student anywhere currently. trying to contact doctors in my area who are doing research but no luck yet.
is there any other way that i can get a publication.
Please help
Thankyou

One thing you might do is to start looking through the websites of the academic psych departments in your area and see who's doing research. Write a few letters of interest introducing yourself and your goals, and attach a CV, and see what happens. I'd put in there that you're in the current match and you're looking for work in the off year. Or you could simply wait until the match takes place and then start to look.

I don't think there's any other way to get out a publication. Is that what you think is your application's weakness? Publications, while they help, aren't really a deal-breaker for most specialties, psych included. Have you had a US psych program director look at your application? Or anyone who evaluates residents? Maybe they can point you in an easier and more productive direction.
