Research in two fields (M1-M2)?

What are the fields? In that case I would choose the specialty I like more and go with that project.

Uro and Ortho. Was thinking of doing a main project in whatever field I have a better opportunity in (currently uro) and then trying to pick up some case reports/easier projects in the other field... I have mentors in both fields that should be able to help me with some research, was just hoping to get some feedback if this is recommended/smart thing to do given my interest in both fields. I do not want to seem disinterested in one field by picking research in the other field

**Note I would only do this if both projects are manageable (which it sounds like they would be) and that both mentors knew/expectations were clear

Sounds like a solid plan to me.

If you know you can manage your time well and work with multiple PIs for several projects, then go for it.

Due to the competitive nature of both specialties, I would just know that it’s difficult to be competitive for both specialties at the same time, so sooner or later you should commit to one specialty and go all in to maximize your chances. Two specialty-specific manuscripts are better than one manuscript each for two specialties, you know.

Absolutely! As someone who enjoys research, I was hoping that maybe getting involved with these projects will give me a different perspective of the fields and maybe help with my decision making. Either way, I want to show interest in both fields and then answer the "Why our field vs this field" question once I am ready to.

Agreed that two specialty-specific pubs is better than two pubs in different fields, but all pubs are still good in the scheme of things. Once I make a decision (hopefully beginning of 3rd year), I would transition into doing research only in my specialty of choice. I am also coming into med school with a couple pubs so I don't think my ability to contribute to projects will be questioned when it's all said and done
