So for those of those with minimal research (just wet-lab research following instructions, such as pcr, western-blots, etc. and not really designing experiments) with no poster or publication, how in-depth will the interview questions be regarding our research? What if we only really knew the "main point" of what we were researching, and nothing more specific?
I would ask you what hypothesis you were testing, your results, and also the ins and outs of your techniques. As an example, I'd ask you what reporter molecules was on your secondary antibody? And what detection system did you use? What does PCR stand for?

These questions are designed to determine if you embellished your experiences; whether you were a tech only blindly following orders, or had independent control of the experiments.

The research I have done was some time ago, so I definitely need to review that material!
You might check out Pub Med, search out the PI, and see if any papers resulted from your contributions. Then you'd have access to the entire panorama of the project and the background papers.

Do PIs not contact students who had large contributions towards an eventual pub?

-If they would be designated as a co-author, certainly.
-If the student had an ongoing relationship with the PI via email, I'd sure hope so.
-But for tech-like "minimal" contributions or from long ago, then, no.
