Hey Guys!

So I have the opportunity to do research or shadow this semester- I'm not sure which to pursue. The research is dental related (10hrs/week) and would be with a practicing dentist and PhD. Shadowing would be with a private practitioner.

With my current schedule, I would only be able to fit in one (since shadowing on saturdays/sundays is usually not an option lol). I currently volunteer at a dental school as an assistant so I do see many procedures, however I do not have much private practice shadowing.

Which do you think I should choose, or rather would be more beneficial in the long run?

Thanks for any info 🙂

If you have good research now and only some or no shadowing then do shadowing.

If you don't have any research then do do research. I think you will find some shadowing to do later.

Shadowing is easier to get into than research...do the research

Thank you doc3232 and Tini for your responses. Its true- not too many people always get the opportunity to do research and I'll still have time to fit in shadowing later on.

doc toothache- your smart aleck response made me laugh. I appreciate a good "who wants to a be a millionaire" reference. However, I wouldnt say this is a dubious question as I know many people who have gone off to dental school without research AND people who have not gotten into dental school because of their little experience with private practice shadowing.
And thats why I asked.

Have a good one guys 🙂
