so in order to receive a grade of "honors" for my anesthesiology clerkship, i have to write a research paper- nothing too big, about 3000 words. the problem is, this is my first month of anesthesiology exposure, so i'm having some difficulty coming up with a topic. we've been told to be careful not to pick a topic too broad or too narrow. anybody have any ideas or favorite areas of the field that could get me started? any help would be appreciated.

incidence of emergence delerium with sevoflurane usage in pediatrics

incidence of emergence delerium with ketamine in adults who received versed as a preoperative medication

should demerol be continued to be used in pediatrics compared to fentanyl for intraoperative and postoperative analgesia?

does a combined spinal / epidural technique (CSE) result in better analgesia for the pregnant patient compared to epidural only?

does a CSE technique result in an increased incidence of hypotension requiring intervention compared to epidural only technique?

Good topics. Maybe broaden the CSE thing a little and do it on "CSE for obstetrical analgesia" or "Regional Anesthesia For The Parturient" or "GA in the Parturient"...One Lung Ventilation For Thoracotomy.....Bleeding Diathesis During CABG......Basics of Perfusion During CABG.....Cognitive Deficit After General Anesthesia....Dexmetatomidine:Hip or Hype?......General vs Regional Anesthesia For Outpatient Surgery.....Perioperative Nausea/Vomiting....Low Molecular Weight Heparins: Impact On Neuraxial Anesthesia Techniques....Subclinical Coagulopathy And Low Molecular Weight Heparins....The Life And Times Of MilitaryMD, Jedi Warrior...Preoperative Risk Factors For Determining Morbidity In CABG Patients.....Malignant Hyperthermia....The SWAN-GANZ:Is It Really Helping Us?....Emergence Comparison of Desflurane and Sevoflurane....Difficult Airway Management....Pulse Oximetry....General Anesthesia During Laparoscopic Surgery.....Anesthesia For Bariatric Surgery...History of the LMA....Pros And Cons of Propofol, Etomidate, and Thiopental....Basics of Neuromuscular Blockade....Monitoring Neuromuscular Blockade.....Neuromuscular Blockade In A Patient With Muscular Dystrophy.....Physiology Of Nondepolarizing Blockers....Beta Blockers And Myocardial Protectance During Surgery....Myocardial Ischemia During General Anesthesia....

Ok....thats enough.... 😴

Jet hit a good one in his list....actually they're all good, but there is one that I would be interested in reading about if someone did a little literature review and wrote about it.

Does Labetalol count as a beta blocker when it comes to myocardial protection?

You could write about the history of beta blockade in myocardial protection.....how it has become standard of care in the last 5 years because of Polderman.

and then talk about whether labetalol actually counts.
