I'm almost finished with my application, except I have no research experience. Would leaving it blank hurt my chances of getting into schools? (especially the top ones that are known for research?)

Also, my first DAT score wasn't too great. How late can I retake them? (I was thinking around late Sept or early Oct)

first, this topic has been discussed recently A LOT....so i suggest you do a search.

second, if you have no research and low DAT scores, then of course you're hurting your chances of gaining admission to the top dental schools. i think it's common sense.

third, take the DAT again whenever you feel as if your prepared. i would shoot for no later than august.

Having no research is okay. there is no minimum requirement of research for admission and plenty people got in (with leaving it blank). retake your first dat can be done at the minimum of 3 months within your last test. So if your last test was taken in may this year, you have to wait till august to retake. check out the thompson-prometric testing center site to do so!

I have no research, but will be doing research in the spring of 2007 (after I apply, before I would enroll).

Should I write this down on my applciation, even though I don't know the details of the research I will be doing?

GREAT question! i have the same one but with extracurriculars!!!!!! can you write down what you WILL BE DOING!

No, because it won't look good if you dont know what your research is about!

Somebody told me I should just list research papers I've done for class... is this a good idea or will it just look stupid to the adcoms?

IMO, that would look pretty stupid. By research, it means to be in a lab under a faculty member, perform experiments and help publish a paper...not just any ordinary research paper that counts 20% of the grade in a course

i agree.. i don't really consider papers done in class as research.
