Research program summer before med school

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone know of any programs during the summer for those entering medical school in the fall?

You should take that summer to relax. It's one of the last free summer vacations that you will have.

Sometimes money needs to be made. Medical schools don't pay for your relocation, so its good to have a few thousand save up.

There are very few summer programs in science where you can make, "a few thousand." Perhaps working for a financial firm, but that would be quite a different career path...

Every summer science program (SURF, SURP etc.) you make a few thousand.

I know medical students that needed relocation money etc. that asked to participate in the school's SURP/SURF program. This is obviously on a school to school basis.

There is a summer internship program at NIH. You could look into that.

This isn't considered making money, especially a few thousand. You receive a stipend, not a salary. Some of that goes into living expenses, travel, housing (depending on the program). By the time the summer is over it's more than likely you would make less than a "few thousand."

I think it depends on the program. I know some programs pay for housing/food and still give you a stipend ranging from $1500-3000 (don't ask me which ones because I totally forget :lame:).

The overwhelming majority of SURF/SURP programs and programs like Amgen provide a decent stipend. Take home you're looking at 1,000-2,000, which is a decent amount of money for relocation or other expenses. You're right, no one is going to take home 5,000 in a summer AFTER living expenses in a summer research program.

Hmm anyone have any specific programs or where I can find them??
