Can any of you-- rads residents, attendings, etc.-- think of a doable research project in rads for a med-1 student within 2-3 months?

I know this is a random question, but any answers are welcome!

I'm asking for general ideas, folks!

Please help me out here!

The reason you're probably not getting a response is:
1) You are asking people to give you an idea for research that they have thought of without potential for co-authorship.
or
2) You are asking them to do the preliminary research to find a project in addition to #1.

I did radiology research last summer and found a project by working with faculty members at my institution. Talk to some radiologists at your school - the docs/residents where I am are very happy to work with a motivated med student and have lots of research ideas. Or pick up any radiology journal and spend an afternoon reading articles that interest you. You'll find unanswered questions that you can build a project around.

If you're worried about finding one that'll last 2-3 months, come up with a few ideas and bring them to someone in your radiology department to help you find an appropriate one.

I am and will do all of what you mentioned.

I'm not asking people to share their original ideas with me here. I just need an idea as to what TYPE of radiology research junior med students tend to get involved in.

Do a case report. There are plenty of interesting cases in teaching files that ought to be published, but aren't because people are too busy or too lazy to. Just ask around.

A case report in radiology is easy to do and better than nothing. It doesn't take any original thought. Just show a picture, describe the findings (just summarize the findings part of the report). Then write a little blurb about the pathology, possible treatments, and differential diagnoses of said entity.
VOILA! You have a publication.

Very true, however, writing up case reports is boring (in my opinion) and hypothesis driven research is more impressive to admissions committees. 2-3 months is enough time to get a retrospective study done if the IRB has already been approved. As other posters have mentioned, talk to some people in the radiology dept at your school to see if there are any projects that are ready to be started, and just waiting for an eager med student to get the ball rolling. You'd be surprised how many of these projects are available.

I'm not, but just for argument's sake:

What if you're at a DO school that doesn't HAVE a radiology department?
