Hello All,
I was just wondering... how many schools, and how much do these schools weight a reserach publication. In my situation with a 3.25 overall, and 3.05 sci, with 19AA on DAT. I am going to have a research publication, so i'm wondering if its gonna help my chances alot.

I don't know how much it will help, but it certainly won't hurt. And by the way are you the lead author?

I am the 3rd author.

Oh OK.....It can't hurt.

I’m not sure how much it [published research] matters, but I had this brought up to me at SUNY, NYU and Case interviews. I guess it complements you greatly, especially if you get your research published in a science magazine while in undergrad. Not too many undergrads have this in their backpacks... I do 😍

It obviously won't hurt you but I doubt it'll make or break you...What journal? There are different levels of prestige among journals...Getting something in JACS is far more impressive than publishing something in your school's undergrad's journal, for example. But regardless, it's something you should be proud of and highlight on your application.

its not in the school's undergrad journal.... its going to be in a national journal. Possibly a British journal as well. thats why i was wondering about the weight of it.

I was wondering if you HAVE to clarify what author you are for the publication. I'm the 4th author of a national publication(I don't know why), but can I just put down Author of xxx on my application.

Is research an essential part of peoples application? I am not going to have any and the only research I plan to do is the required 2hrs course for me to get chemistry degree at my school.

your application is not significantly hampered nor boosted (unless you develop it into a major point) by publications. many people get in w/o research, many who don't had research on their resumes... don't sweat too much about it.
