Hello everyone,

I have noticed that many applicants have quite a few publications. My question is: when do people have time to publish. Since ophtho is so competitive, I waited until I had my STEP score back before committing too much time to a specialty that I didn't have a shot to match. What does everyone else do?

having research under your belt will only help you no matter what field you decide to go into. If you start a research project early you have a better chance to publish and this will help your application weather it be for ophthalmology or some other specialty. Some research projects (not a lot) can be done quickly and publications can be had with relatively short turnaround if you decide upon a specialty later on.
